Here's some pictures of Year 2's awesome Christmas Disco! Year 2 had a visit from Richard ('That History Bloke'), who led an amazing workshop all about the Great Fire of Newcastle and Gateshead. Year 2 have been learning to write instructions, to do this we have been following a range of different instruction types - including making a jam sandwich! Year 2 have been investigating how different materials change shape in Science this week. Year 2 had a blast in our Spooky Disco! As part of our art topic on North American Indigenous art, Year 2 completed a study in Earth tones using watercolours Step into the world of Oliver Twist…Year 2 all took part in the role play from the scene in the workhouse, where poor children lived and worked in difficult conditions. Oliver and friends ate the disgusting ‘gruel’ then Oliver approached Mr Brumble and said” Please, sir I want some more”!  Sorting out! In Science Year 2 have been learning about recycling and disposing     all the different types of rubbish into the correct bins to help out our planet. Year 2 had a blast on our Alice in Wonderland celebration day! Year 2 have loved catching up with their friends this week!

Some of our pupils from Year 5 and 6 visited Kenton Hall Care Home this week, to spend some time with the residents and complete some spooky crafts. It was a wonderful experience for everyone involved and we are really excited to continue to make links between school and the care home.

Our Eco-Warriors went to the Youth Climate Summit at Durham University where they took part in a range of workshops and shared ideas with other schools. Our Eco warriors had a great start to the year with a trip to Scotswood gardens to gain ideas for our own forest school!

We are delighted to share some exciting news about our school. St Cuthbert’s has been awarded the Champion Heritage School Award  by Historic England. This is a national honour recognising schools that celebrate and promote their local area’s heritage. We are especially proud because we are the first school in Tyne & Wear  to receive this award. Currently, only eight schools nationwide hold this accolade, and with this second national intake, that number will rise to just sixteen. What a fantastic achievement!

Reception and Year 6 love seeing their Buddies each week.  We enjoy playing, reading & making things together.  We can't wait to present our Buddy Assembly to our family and friends.

Dear Parents and Carers of St Cuthbert’s, We are writing to inform you that we have children on roll at St Cuthbert’s who have a  severe allergy to nuts . This allergy is life-threatening and can be triggered not only by eating nuts but also by contact with nut oils, residues or airborne particles.   To ensure the safety and well-being of all our pupils, we kindly ask for your cooperation in making our school environment as safe as possible in reference to any packed lunches you choose to send into school.   Before you read on, could I please remind you that all of our Reception and KS1 children are entitled to a Universal Infant Free  School Meal. All meals served in St Cuthbert’s from our kitchen are allergen compliant and completely nut free.   In respect of children who are bringing their own packed lunch instead of accessing their free school meal, we are asking for your support with the following measures:   Please  do not send any nuts or nut products  in your child’s packed lunch or snacks. This includes items such as: ·         Peanut butter ·         Nutella or other chocolate spreads containing nuts ·         Cereal bars or baked goods with nuts ·         Any foods containing nut oils   Wherever possible, please try and avoid: ·         Any food labelled ‘may contain nuts’ ·         Any food labelled ‘may have been made in a factory where nuts are used’   Please  check food labels carefully  before packing your child’s lunch or snack.   Education and Awareness ·         Staff are trained in allergy awareness and emergency procedures, including the use of EpiPens (Jext Pens). ·         We will be educating the children in an age-appropriate way about allergies and the importance of not sharing food.   If you are opting for a packed lunch for your child instead of their free school meal, we understand that this may require some adjustments on your behalf.
