Reception and Year 6 loved meeting up this week playing and sharing their news about what they did over the Christmas holidays.

Year 6 had a great last week of term in school ! They enjoyed a Christmas quiz, extra time with their Reception Buddies and a fabulous party lunch and disco! Year 6 have had a brilliant week. The Nursery children put on their fancy clothes and dancing shoes for our Christmas party.  We boogied in the hall to Christmas music, played party games, ate delicious party food and even had a very special visit from Santa.  What an exciting day!  The Nursery staff were very proud of the children when they performed the ‘Christmas Sing Song.’ The children stood beautifully and loved sharing with their families, songs that told the story of when Baby Jesus was born.  We have

Y5 completed their artwork linked to a Starry Nigh By Van Gogh. The narrative changed as we linked this to our RE advent topic and Christmas cards. We hope our families love the results. Year 1 had a fantastic festive day, dressing in our Christmas clothes, dancing with our friends, eating delicious party food and meeting a very important visitor! Merry Christmas, everyone! Year 3 have made their final party hat designs, ready to share with their Year 1 friends for their party next week. Our Eco-Warriors went to the Youth Climate Summit at Durham University where they took part in a range of workshops and shared ideas with other schools. Our Eco warriors had a great start to the year with a trip to Scotswood gardens to gain ideas for our own forest school!

Some of our pupils from Year 5 and 6 visited Kenton Hall Care Home this week, to spend some time with the residents and complete some spooky crafts. It was a wonderful experience for everyone involved and we are really excited to continue to make links between school and the care home.

We are delighted to share some exciting news about our school. St Cuthbert’s has been awarded the Champion Heritage School Award  by Historic England. This is a national honour recognising schools that celebrate and promote their local area’s heritage. We are especially proud because we are the first school in Tyne & Wear  to receive this award. Currently, only eight schools nationwide hold this accolade, and with this second national intake, that number will rise to just six
