March 2026 March continues the season of Lent, a time when children are encouraged to slow down, reflect, and prepare their hearts for the events of Holy Week and the celebration of Easter. Why not listen to the Friday prayer audio clip through the Online Parent Portal with your child/ren and make time to pause and reflect on the journey Jesus takes to the Cross in your own family prayer time. https://new.express.adobe.com/webpage/QV3cadJGZL0fP/ Transfiguration of the Lord by Fr Lawrence Lew OP on Flickr. Licensed under CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 In the week beginning 2nd March, children reflect on the Gospel account of when Jesus revealed His glory to some of His closest friends. Through the story of the Transfiguration ( Matthew 17:1-9 ), children learn how Jesus chose to show who He truly is to Peter, James and John, helping them to see more clearly and grow their faith and trust in Him. Through this story, children learn that Jesus chose to spend time with someone who others ignored or avoided, showing that His love is offered to everyone. Schools have access to a Stations of the Cross resource, which helps children follow Jesus’ journey to the Cross in a simple and reflective way.
- Year 6 Spring Term 26
Year 6 have really enjoyed their volleyball lessons this half term. They have learned lots of new skills and they enjoy the competitive games. Year 6 had great fun in maths testing out whether their arm span was the same as their height and measuring their feet using their forearms. Ask them to show you at home! Year 6 planned and carried out their own scientific investigations to see how different types of exercise affected their heart rate. As part of their English topic, Macbeth, Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed acting out parts of the text. After this, they wrote their own witches' spells and performed in trios. Year 6 have been learning some really important first aid. Hopefully they'll not need it but they are well-prepared! The children in Year 6 are loving our English topic, Macbeth! This week, they have written their own Shakespearean insults and enjoyed deulling with a partner and they have also acted out some of the original text as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. They can't wait for the next instalment and their trip to the theatre next week! Year 6 are having a great time creating their own reaction game prototypes using craft knives with accuracy to create the perfect shapes and programming the Microbits to create buzzers.

- Parent Workshops
We loved it when our parents came to join our Maths lesson this week. They helped us to complete a Maths activity where we had to identify different ways of making ten. We have taken our Family Maths Toolkit Scrapbooks home so we can do more challenges at home. Well done everyone. Thank you to all of the parents who attended our Year 4 well-being session. The adults and children loved working together to think about how they will show a growth mindset to help them to overcome challenges. There were some brilliant strategies! A huge 'well done' to everyone! Reception children enjoyed playing games and completing activities with their parents in the Maths workshop. We loved it when our parents came in to the Reception class and played Phonic games with us.

- Snow Closure Procedures
Dear Parents and Carers of St Cuthbert’s, Re: Snow Closure Procedures At St Cuthbert’s we take our responsibility seriously to educate and care for our pupils and wherever possible it is our intention to open as normal during periods of difficult weather. We appreciate that closure impacts on children’s learning and parents’ childcare arrangements. However, we also recognise our responsibility towards the safety of children and adults on site and whilst journeying to and from school. In the event of a closure, we will use the following forms of communication to inform parents/carers: · Text message · School Website · Email · School Facebook · Newcastle City Council website: (school closures page) Unless you hear from us that we are closed, please assume each day that we are open as usual. In the event of a school closure, teachers will share activities for remote learning via our school website or email. We know these decisions can be difficult, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding. The weather can change quickly, and sometimes that means we need to make adjustments for everyone’s safety. If we ever have to close during the day due to worsening conditions, we’ll do our very best to let parents know as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued support. Best wishes, Anne Bullerwell Executive Headteacher
