- Important Health Notice: Severe Nut Allergy in school
Dear Parents and Carers of St Cuthbert’s, We are writing to inform you that we have children on roll at St Cuthbert’s who have a severe allergy to nuts . This allergy is life-threatening and can be triggered not only by eating nuts but also by contact with nut oils, residues or airborne particles. To ensure the safety and well-being of all our pupils, we kindly ask for your cooperation in making our school environment as safe as possible in reference to any packed lunches you choose to send into school. Before you read on, could I please remind you that all of our Reception and KS1 children are entitled to a Universal Infant Free School Meal. All meals served in St Cuthbert’s from our kitchen are allergen compliant and completely nut free. In respect of children who are bringing their own packed lunch instead of accessing their free school meal, we are asking for your support with the following measures: Please do not send any nuts or nut products in your child’s packed lunch or snacks. This includes items such as: · Peanut butter · Nutella or other chocolate spreads containing nuts · Cereal bars or baked goods with nuts · Any foods containing nut oils Wherever possible, please try and avoid: · Any food labelled ‘may contain nuts’ · Any food labelled ‘may have been made in a factory where nuts are used’ Please check food labels carefully before packing your child’s lunch or snack. Education and Awareness · Staff are trained in allergy awareness and emergency procedures, including the use of EpiPens (Jext Pens). · We will be educating the children in an age-appropriate way about allergies and the importance of not sharing food. If you are opting for a packed lunch for your child instead of their free school meal, we understand that this may require some adjustments on your behalf. We fully appreciate your support in helping us create a safe and inclusive environment for all children. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Best wishes, Mrs Anne Bullerwell Executive Headteacher

It's been a very busy week in Year 1! We had a brilliant sports afternoon with our friends from Reception and Year 2, enjoyed some brilliant transition activities. We also thought about the difference between things we want and things we need as part of our RE topic of 'Neighbours'. We had some lively, respectful discussion, sharing our viewpoints and listening to our friends. We thought about God's amazing creation and created our own versions of fish, then we made posters to encourage everyone to reuse and recycle! Fantastic! Year 1 designed and made some amazing peg dolls, inspired by our work on Victorians. We all chose to make something different, from characters in traditional tales, aliens and mermaids, to representations of Victorian children and even ourselves! They all looked fantastic and we loved playing with them. Year 1 have been practicing their musical skills this week, learning how to hold the beaters for the xylophones correctly and reading musical notation to play the tricky rhythms in 'Crocodile Rock'! They had to make sure they were all playing the right notes in time with the music. Fantastic! We went on a minibeast hunt in the Butterfly Garden and Forest School. We found lots of creepy crawlies before having a story about a spider who liked to play football! Reception have enjoyed being the lifeguards whilst playing with our small world rescue centre. We also have looked at photos of 'People who help us' and their vehicles from the past and now. We sorted them into two groups of 'now' and 'then'. Reception have loved telling stories on our fire engine and in our police station in the Butterfly Garden. On Friday, we enjoyed coming to school dressed as a person who helps others in their job. We looked fantastic. Can you guess who we are? Reception enjoyed going for a walk around Kenton to look at places where 'people who help us work'. We saw postal workers, bus drivers, taxi drivers, paramedics, shop keepers & council workers cutting down trees. On Wednesday, we brought in our own teddies & pretended they had hurt themselves. We took on the role of the doctor and treated our teddy patients to make them feel better. Reception had great fun in their first 'Rugby Minis' coaching session. They played 'Stuck in the Mud', 'What's the Time Mr Wolf', threw the rugby ball and learnt how to place it on a spot to score a try.
