It's been a very busy week in Year 1! We had a brilliant sports afternoon with our friends from Reception and Year 2, enjoyed some brilliant transition activities. We also thought about the difference between things we want and things we need as part of our RE topic of 'Neighbours'. We had some lively, respectful discussion, sharing our viewpoints and listening to our friends.
Year 1 had a fantastic time learning all about God's special planet and finding out about our responsibilities as stewards of the earth. We thought about God's amazing creation and created our own versions of fish, then we made posters to encourage everyone to reuse and recycle! Fantastic!
Year 1 designed and made some amazing peg dolls, inspired by our work on Victorians. We all chose to make something different, from characters in traditional tales, aliens and mermaids, to representations of Victorian children and even ourselves! They all looked fantastic and we loved playing with them.
Year 1 have been practicing their musical skills this week, learning how to hold the beaters for the xylophones correctly and reading musical notation to play the tricky rhythms in 'Crocodile Rock'! They had to make sure they were all playing the right notes in time with the music. Fantastic!
Year 1 have been finding out about Pentecost, acting out the events and thinking about how Jesus' disciples felt before and after they were filled with the Holy Spirit! We created some beautiful doves and wrote down words which reminded us how the disciples felt. Every time we come into our classroom, we see the doves and remember how the Holy Spirit fills us with confidence!
Year 1 have been learning about the features of our local coastline and looking carefully at King Edward's Bay. We made maps on our tables using different resources, then viewed them from above to help us to make our own aerial view maps! 🙂
Year 1 worked so hard on making their fantastic, stable lighthouse models!
Year 1 have been amazing designers this week, creating prototypes for a stable lighthouse model! We tested our prototypes and used them to plan how we make the real models next week. Fantastic problem solving!
ear 1 really enjoyed celebrating VE day with their friends! We took part in some reflective collective worship and thought about what it feels like to work as part of a team! Well done!
Year 1 had a brilliant day, climbing up the stairs inside St Mary's lighthouse, finding out all about the life of a lighthouse keeper, discovering weird and wonderful creatures in the rockpools and creating some fabulous sand art! Well done, everyone!
