Spring 2022

What an amazing topic! We have been learning about TITANIC and why it is important in our history. The children have been learning English, Maths, History, Geography, Art & Design through this topic.
In computing, Mrs Gregson has been supporting the children understand how to take a photograph. The children used natural resources to create a design in the style of Andy Goldsworthy then photographed each others creations.
In Maths we have been learning about 'Measuring'. We have been exploring measuring length in cm and m, capacity and volume in ml and litres, time in hours and minutes and mass in g/kg.
Key Stage 1 Library Time
Year 2 have thoroughly enjoyed spending time in their new library. They can explore reading and chatting about stories. Some children acted out familiar stories and shared this with words and pictures on the whiteboard. Everyone enjoys borrowing books from the library each week to share at home and they especially love hearing stories read at the end of library time.
Measuring - Capacity and Volume
The children have been learning about capacity and volume and measuring in ml/l. They read a range of containers and looked at the integers on the scales to work out identified points on the scales. The children had different recipes to follow to make 'The Bullerwell Blocker'. We invited Mrs Bullerwell down to try the mixture and ...IT TOOK HER VOICE AWAY!
John Baptised Jesus.
The children read and discussed the story of 'John Baptising Jesus'. They used role play to act out and rehearse the scripture shared from the Gospel. They identified what symbols they identified with from the story and made links to other Bible stories.
Art & Design
The children looked at a local glass artist 'George Hunter' and created their own glass tea light holders in his style linked with our topic 'Titanic'.
They explored colour, pattern and tone initially and then tried to apply this in their artwork.
The children explored different coins and compared their numerical information and their size. Many children thought that the bigger the coin, the greater the value so we looked at the numbers and the words to differentiate this.
The children have been using an atlas to identify continents and oceans. They worked together to identify these places and make sense of the distance between countries that they were familiar with.
