Autumn 2023

We had a great first week in the Reception class playing in the sunshine with our new friends.
Reception loved exploring Kenton Library and meeting the librarians. We had a little play with the toys and read some stories.  We even got to bring a book back to school.
Reception have loved listening to the story of 'Farmer Duck'.  We acted it out wearing masks in the Butterfly Garden.
We loved collecting the apples from our apple tree in the Butterfly Garden then we cut them up into small pieces before we stewed them.  Mrs Marley showed us how to measure out the ingredients and mix it together to make the crumble topping. We all tried some of the apple crumble and lots of us thought it was delicious.

We enjoyed hunting for letters in the Butterfly Garden then said the sound and put them in the corresponding letter hoop.

Reception loved reading Funny Bones and looking at our body and all of the different bones in our skeletons!
Reception have enjoyed being creative this week.  We made our own skeletons using the art straws and in groups we created the dark, dark street where the skeletons lived.  They looked fantastic.

We loved listening to the story of 'Room on the Broom'.  We sequenced the pictures to help us retell the story then we acted it out with our friends. We were very pleased that the dragon didn't get to have witch and chips for his tea!
We loved it when our parents and carers came to the Reception Reading Cafe'.  We read stories together then listened to Mrs Marley read a story before we had a snack.
We went to the chapel to have a Liturgy at the end of our topic of Baptism.  We talked about when somebody is being baptised then they are being welcomed into God's family. We drew the sign of the cross on our friends' foreheads just like the priest does when he is baptising someone.

Reception have been exploring the different seasons.  We named the four seasons and thought about what happens in each season.  We loved jumping in the leaves, making a picture with Autumn objects and painting a tree to represent a season.  Lots of us loved painting pink blossom to create a tree in the Springtime.
Reception had a great time at our Christmas Party.  We loved dancing, playing party games and of course eating the party food.   We even had a very special visit from Santa!

We talked about our birthdays and how we are getting ready to celebrate Jesus’ birthday on Christmas Day. We acted out a birthday celebration in our home corner. We loved retelling the Christmas story of when Jesus was born in our Reception Christmas Sing Song.
