Autumn 2023

Our topic this half term is Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Here we are acting out the scene in which Oliver meets the Artful Dodger.
Oliver Twist Day
We loved watching the fantastic theatre production of Oliver Twist! Here we are all dressed up for the occasion.
We have loved using the library for the first time in Year 2! We have each selected a book to take home and read with our adults!
Year 2 have been using a range of watercolour techniques to create our artworks. We used splashing, wax-resist and created a wash.
Year 2 led mass at church. We did a great job reading the Bidding prayers, Responsorial Psalm and the first reading to the parishioners.
In Science we have been learning about different materials and their properties. Here we were investigating the changeability of different materials by seeing if we could squash, bend, stretch or twist them.
Instructions - Gruel
Year 2 have made some Oliver Twist-style workhouse gruel this week to help us write instructions for how to make it. Yummy!
Liturgical Prayer
Year 2 took part in a liturgical prayer to celebrate our R.E. theme, 'Beginnings'.
We had a visit from the dentists where we learned all about our dental and oral hygiene.
Trip to the Discovery Museum!
We had a wonderful time at the Discovery Museum taking part in a workshop all about the Great Fire of Newcastle & Gateshead!
In Science we have been learning about how to classify animals!
The Great Fire of Newcastle & Gateshead
We've been writing a retell of the events of the Great fire of Newcastle & Gateshead. We used 'talk for writing' techniques to sequence the main events.
Reading Cafe
A huge thanks to all the parents that attended our Reading Cafe. It was so lovely to see the children reading stories with their adults!
