Autumn 2023

This week, we have been investigating our senses! We found out how good our eyesight was by seeing how far away we could get before the little spot became invisible, tested out hearing skills and even tested our taste buds!  We've also been reading about amazing animal senses, counting to 100 in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s and splitting numbers into tens and units!
This week we have been lots of different lists around our classroom and finding out why lists are useful. We found a pile of stolen objects in our classroom so we decided to write a list of the things we found to help the police with their investigations!

We also had our first gymnastic session and our first Daily Mile- fantastic!
We loved dressing up for our 'Oliver Twist' day and made fantastic props for our role play area! We've been reading about the different characters and matching captions to the photos from our role play last week.

We've also been learning about multiples of 10, playing lots of counting games, investigating the number square and discovering what 100 cubes looks like. We even drew 100 objects!

In RE we learned about Psalm 63 and acted out the elements which helped us to recognise how God takes care of us... a mummy hen and her baby chicks!

We've been finding out all about labels and labelled our classroom then labelled our bodies. it was so much fun!
What a fantastic first week in Year 1! We have loved catching up with our friends, exploring the classroom and finding out all about the amazing story of 'Oliver Twist!'
