Autumn 2021

Treasure Island!
To introduce our topic on Treasure Island, Year 3 went on a treasure hunt! With help from Miss Dorning, we found a map and worked out that we will be learning all about pirates!
Pirate Day
Year 3 have loved Pirate Day! We got dressed up and did loads of activities themed around Pirates and our book, Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson. We were lucky to have an amazing theatre company visit school to perform Treasure Island!
Year 3 are lucky enough to have sessions from Monica, who visits us from RISE. This week we had a session focusing on our similarities and our differences. We had a deep discussion about our relationships and how to show respect and kindness to each other.
In our Science lessons with Mrs Hacking we have been learning all about food and nutrition. Here are some pictures of our food tasting activity!
Testing Liquids
In Science we tested the fat content of different liquids. We tested milk, water, egg yolk and oil!
Inspired by Treasure Island illustrator, David Frankland, we created the final scene of the story - when  the crew are sailing away from Treasure Island in the Hispaniola. We created a wash for the sky and used a technique with a sponge to create an ocean texture, being careful to show the horizon clearly. Then we used oil pastels to draw the silhouette of the island on horizon.
Here are some examples of the different Maths activities that we have been doing. We love physical and concrete activities to help our understanding of different mathematical concepts.
